Did you know that Jim Morrison had an IQ of 150?
If you listen to his poetry and lyrics it is quite evident no one else sounds like him. His lyrics are timeless, his perception and depth unmatched. He was able to combine perfectly and consciously topics of existential angst, life and death, perception and other deep metaphysical topics.. into entertaining pop tunes and all before the age of 27! How is such complexity and brilliance possible in one so young you may ask. Well, here we go exploring his soft parade.
IQ: an unpopular subject
Nobody Likes to label or talk about IQ, there are modern axioms from the left that IQ is not relevant or that there are other factors such as EQ that cause more effect on outcomes in people’s lives. However, statistically, there is nothing more correlated with all forms of success that IQ, be it interpersonal, marriage and divorce rates, financial successes, education levels, wealth and length of life… All are highly highly correlated with IQ.
So what does IQ even mean
Saying somebody is 30% smarter than you, what does that even mean? it is a very abstract concept and very hard to apply to any explanation of how this score might change perceptions and affect in the world.
Here is the best tangible way I have been able to communicate what Jim Morrison’s IQ would mean in real world terms.
On average the IQ in normed at 100… But in fact, the range of ‘normal is in fact 85-115. A standard deviation in either direction (SD 15) So if you fit this range, so do 70 to 80% of people on earth. Once you get into Jim Morrison’s territory of 3 or more standard deviations above mean… you’re in about 99.93 of the world. Meaning you’re higher than 99.93 percent of the planet… and 30-40 % higher than most even high average range people.
How this works
Ok so we have the numbers… but what does that actually mean? Your good at maths and like reading? Or is there more to it? Lets us play around with the idea in this way…
IQ is your library book card…
- The average person is able to take out 7 books ( SD 15 x 7 = IQ of 105.. Actually making you much smarter than 63% of the planet.
- Jim Morrison has a library card that allows him to take out 10 Books (SD 15 x 10 = 150)
Now that is just the start
- So IQ 105 = 7 books
- IQ 150 = 10 books…
This math is sketchy but just bear with it for illustrative reasons…
Ready.. here we go… Not only does Jim take out 30% more books. But he reads them 30% faster… So you read 7 books in 7 days and he reads 10 books in 7 days
So each week Jim reads 3 more books than you… But there is more… So Each book is 30% bigger and 30% more complex and while he is reading them he is connecting them to 30% areas in his memory.
So by the end of one week, an average person has read 7 books and Jim has read 10 books, that were longer. Say 10,000 words compared to 7,000 words, and 30% complicated words and theories and he connected them to more things…
So the next week when this happens again… He will connect them to even MORE things in his mind that will be even more complicated because he has learnt so much more last week and he can recall and play around with all the books ideas in his mind 30% better than the average person.
Over two weeks Jim has 10 books + 10 books that are more complicated compared with 7 books and 7 books that are less complicated… Already in two weeks, we have 20 books totalling 20,000 words and 14 books totalling 14,000 less complex words… and then the difference in information just splits off into two different lives.
For life effects
This amount of information processing speed raises many different results in life. For starters, communication is effected in a very basic way. If you have more data, and more memory you are going to make more connections. The more connections the more patterns you will see. In a very basic way. If you’re talking about a pet dog, and you are only able to think about the dog in front of you, you will only be able to say, this dog, likes bones, right now… But if you have more information and more memory you would have a hard time just saying that statement. You would likely say all dogs like bones, most of the time. So it is no longer in the here and now. But in the world of future, past and also pattern recognition that all the dogs you can see in your mind, all liked bones most of the time… Very simple explanation but on a more complex level, the more data someone has, the harder it will be for them to talk in concrete terms (The here and now) vs Abstractly (The always everywhere). Communication becomes difficult because their mind is occupying so many more places all at once, they are connecting many things. Things that are not obviously connected without imagination p deep ammounts of information, that is right on thier mind at all times.
Jim is eternal
So that is how Jim Morrison managed to cram Oedipus Rex and the eternal questions of life death and perception into rock and roll. While the other great bands like Led Zepplin were singing about Lord of the rings and the weather and love. This is why the depth of some conversations are going on fishing trips and buying houses… And Jim Morrison’s are life and death and Philosophy. While some people are able to raise a family and plan holidays. Others are able to make discoveries that change life on this planet such as like cold fusion and relativity and gravity.
